Position Summary: The Transition Registered Nurse Fellowship on 5 West / Step Down Unit is an exciting opportunity for the experienced nurse to transition to a Pediatric Nurse. The Transition Fellowship in August 2020, ranges from 12 weeks to 16 weeks depending on the area of specialty, includes competency-driven clinical immersion and curriculum, as well as formal mentoring and debriefing. 5 West is similar to a PICU Step Down Unit primarily manages children with pulmonary conditions, infectious diseases, endocrine and metabolic disorders. Many exciting opportunities await those that are prepared to expand their knowledge base, and level of skill. The staff on 5 West have the unique ability to manage chronic pulmonary patients requiring mechanical ventilation and bi-level usage, as well as care for patients in diabetic ketoacidosis on Insulin drips. 5 West is a 32-bed unit with 25 reverse air flow isolation beds and 7 negative airflow rooms. Each transition RN receives an individualized learning plan for competency acquisition based on a performance gap analysis process. With the supervision of a preceptor you will conduct patient assessments, participates in the development of the plan of care, implements and evaluate care according to patient specific age and/or developmental needs as outlined below. You will collaborates with other health care team, as guided by their preceptors and members in the delivery of care while consistently demonstrating commitment to a patient and family focused model of care. Minimum Education/Training Required: BSN is required Minimum Experience Required: 2 years as a Registered Nurse in an acute care setting with Ventilator, Bipap, and diabetic management experience preferred License, Registration or Certification Required: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of California. BLS & PALS required through the American Heart Association.
