Position Summary: The Supervisor provides operational and clinical supervision for CardioThoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU). Provides front-line supervision to staff while on the unit. Collaborates with the Manager to implement plans addressing performance improvement, quality improvement, advancement of care delivery, and customer/staff satisfaction. Serves as a work area leader and develops systems to ensure efficient workflow and collaborative relationships with physicians and other members of the interprofessional team. Maintains open communication with manager regarding patients, family, personnel and departmental issues.

The 24 bed CTICU was established at CHLA in 1993. It is staffed by pediatric intensivists and located within the Heart Institute. About 900 patients are admitted each year, including children with the most complex diseases of the heart and lung. The CTICU is known as a worldwide leader in the treatment of heart disease (congenital or acquired) and lung disorders in children. We provide virtually every advanced treatment for all heart disorders and defects affecting children from neonate to young adult.

Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience: 3-5 years of experience in pediatrics preferred. Expert clinical knowledge of unit’s patient population. Ability to lead others. Good organizational skills. Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully, both verbally and in writing.

Education/Licensure/Certification: Baccalaureate degree and California licensure in respective discipline required. For nursing: California RN License, Current CPR and PALS Card. For NICCU nursing: NRP and certification in neonatal intensive care nursing from a nationally-recognized accrediting organization required. National Certification Required.
