Job Description

The Nurse Program Coordinator Senior job supports staff retention and development with an emphasis on customizing staff roles and improving communication and feedback throughout the unit. By improving staff satisfaction and loyalty, the quality of patient care and the satisfaction of our customers should be an indirect outcome. This position provides direction, education, leadership and accountability for program development, implementation and evaluation in area of responsibility. This job's responsibilities also include professional development and empowerment of staff.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:
Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible or compact state

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment:
Current RN licensure in Virginia AHA BLS HCP certification or equivalent

Experience REQUIRED:
Minimum of six (6) years of clinical nursing experience with at least two (2) years in a progressive leadership or supervisory role
Demonstrated clinical expertise for population served with a minimum of one (1) year in specialty practice

Experience PREFERRED:
Six or more (6+) years of clinical experience Experience in staff education and professional development preferred (orientation, preceptorship, in-services education, etc.)
Academic Health Care experience Advanced Practice Nursing Role or Clinical Leadership role experience

Education/training REQUIRED:
Completion of a Masters-level Nursing Degree (MSN, MN or MS-Nursing) from an accredited program Certification in specialty area

Education/training PREFERRED:
Completion of a Doctoral Degree in Nursing from an accredited program

Independent action(s) required:
All day-to-day operations of the unit are handled independently.
Advice and guidance are sought from the Director on an as needed basis and when there is a major impact on activity outside the unit.
Actions that are taken without prior approval include daily operational functions and leadership of staff.
With guidance from Supervisor, advice and guidance are sought for termination of employees, handling employee grievances, review of annual unit goals and budget, approval on unit guidelines and procedures and review of staff annual performance evaluations

Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable):
Supervises assigned clinical and non-clinical staff.

Additional position requirements:
Will generally work day shift, but may require flexibility for special projects or to meet organizational and staffing needs.
May be required to come to unit for times other than day shift to meet with staff or monitor staff effectiveness/issues.
