Amazon Care and Telehealth services halted!

Amazon Care and Telehealth services halted!

As Amazon Care was launched to its employees, people were expecting it to expand this to more users and Amazon will venture and fully immersed on the healthcare industry. The program provided telehealth and in-person services to their employees in Seattle area,  which eventually expanded to other states. It then went into partnerships with several organizations such as TrueBlue, Silicon Labs, Precor and Whole Foods Market.  Over the years, they have gathered study and feedback from enterprise partners, and it came to a conclusion that it wasn't sustainable enough long term. From the Amazon's written statement

"However, despite these efforts, we’ve determined that Amazon Care isn’t the right long-term solution for our enterprise customers, and have decided that we will no longer offer Amazon Care after December 31, 2022, This decision wasn’t made lightly and only became clear after many months of careful consideration. Although our enrolled members have loved many aspects of Amazon Care, it is not a complete enough offering for the large enterprise customers we have been targeting, and wasn’t going to work long-term"

-Neil Lindsay, senior vice president of Amazon Health Services

This may not be the last stop for Amazon though as it plans to buy One Medical -a  membership-based, tech-integrated, consumer-focused primary care platform. So they might shift into acquisitions rather than building something from scratch. If the deal happened, Amazon will then put itself in a $4 trillion healthcare market.
